Folk-ly Tale

First of all, to all my Chinese friends Happy Chinese New Year!! and to the rest of the people in Malaysia, Happy Holidays! For those who don't know, this lunar new year is the year of the DRAGON among the 12 zodiacs.

And.... Yes, this post is of course regarding Chinese New Year. For those who don't know, on the first day of Chinese New Year, we should visit relatives' houses to take angpau which has money from everyone to pai nian (pay respect - I think). Apologies if my translation is wrong, however, what I wanna stress on in this post that Chinese New Year has 15 days and the first 7 days represents a living thing each day.

According to legend,  nüwa (女媧the goddess who created the world. She felt lonely so from clay, she crafted animals on different days.

1st day: Chicken

2nd day: Dog

3rd day: Boar/Pig

4th day: Sheep

5th day: Cow

6th day: Horse

Despite all these animals, there were no one that could actually talk to her like a friend. Therefore, on the seventh day, as she was brushing her hair by the river, she notices images of herself and from there, she created human. Hence, we call the 7th day of Chinese New Year, the Human Day. In some minority parts of South-West China still hails NuWa as their goddess.

NuWa: It was believed that the lower half of her body is serpent.
